Quest – what is it in “simple words”. A selection of mystical games Number of players and age limit

Mystic. It is difficult to give it a clear definition. This includes all genres whose names at least hint at something strange. It all started in the 90s, when no one knew about the TV series “The X-Files”. But after its release, all films and video games that have supernatural elements, but at the same time they themselves “do not reach” the real ones, are usually classified as mysticism.

Here we will talk about best games in the adventure genre with elements of mysticism that have come out over the past few years, and we will also mention several “older” projects. So let's get started.

Blair Witch

1990s, the same forest from the cult film. A private detective goes in search of a missing boy, but soon some devilry begins to happen around him. The journey, full of jump scares and hallucinations, leads the hero to the house of the Blair Witch. But what are these – manifestations of the supernatural or games of an inflamed mind?

Control

The Federal Bureau of Control is an extremely mysterious organization that investigates cases related to paranormal phenomena. When it is invaded by creatures from another world, a girl named Jessie Faden becomes humanity's last hope for salvation.

The Coma 2: Vicious Sisters

The scary story about demons continues: you have to explore the corridors and classrooms educational institution and even get beyond its borders - an entire area of the city is now in the grip of evil supernatural forces. An exciting plot, interesting and unpredictable AI will not leave you indifferent in this adventure.

Silent Hill 2

Dishonored

Alan Wake

Alan Wake was originally developed by Remedy Entertainment (which worked on Max Payne) as a timed exclusive on Xbox 360. After which the game was ported to PC. The story centers on writer Alan Wake, who must uncover the dark secrets of the small town of Bright Falls.

At night, his wife goes missing, and the main character begins to be pursued by possessed people. And although the plot is full of mysteries and mysticism, the gameplay of Alan Wake is tied to action.

Phantasmagoria

Released on as many as 7 discs, Phantasmagoria can easily be called the epitome of interactive films of the mid-90s. The game was released in 1995, and due to the huge amount of sexual content and elements, it gave rise to controversy regarding age restrictions. Because of all the hype, Phantasmagoria deservedly achieved bestseller status.

It's not that interesting to play now. The gameplay is unimpressive and all the action looks wooden, not to mention the weak script. We can say that Phantasmagoria has not stood the test of time. Nevertheless, the game became one of the most successful works of the famous game designer Roberta Williams.

Gemini Rue

Gemini Rue has been hailed by critics as a wonderful return to the roots of graphic adventure games. And the noir story once again confirmed that the Wadjet Eye Games studio deserved its success. The game was released in and deliberately made in a retro style, which can be seen in everything: from graphics to gameplay mechanics. The main action takes place in the 23rd century, and the science fiction narrative part is different big amount unexpected plot twists.

The game was loved not only for its interesting gameplay and story, but also for its graphics, which make it look like a classic retro adventure. Gemini Rue is a game in which you move between locations, collect various items, talk to NPCs and solve puzzles.

The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery

The Beast Within: A Gabriel Knight Mystery is an FMV game from the Sierra studio, the second part in the series, which tells the story of private detective Gabriel Knight, who this time tries to track down a werewolf. The game's plot intricately intertwines German folk mythology and real facts from the history of Bavaria. Among the locations are the famous Neuschwanstein Castle and dense forests, after revealing the secrets of which, the main character will be able to find the lost opera of the German Richard Wagner and find out the truth about the death of Ludwig II.

The gameplay consists of video inserts with real actors who perform all the necessary actions. The game was sold on six CDs, making it one of the biggest titles at the time of its release in 1995. However, today it can be downloaded in one go.

Her Story

Deadly Premonition

If you consider yourself a fan of the cult TV series Twin Peaks, then most likely you have already encountered Dead Premonition. It is obvious that when creating the script for their game, Access Games studio was inspired by David Lynch's masterpiece. You play as an FBI agent who comes to a small town to investigate a murder. And if it is quite easy to find the criminal, then it will be much more difficult to understand what forces control the city.

The Wolf Among Us

The Wolf Among Us is another hit from the studio, based on a series from the Fables universe. The main action takes place in Fabletown, in which heroes from everyone's favorite fairy tales are forced to coexist in the human world. You control the Great Gray Wolf Bigby, the sheriff of Fabletown, whose task is to monitor the Tales and prevent them from attracting unnecessary attention.

He soon encounters a series of murders. Apparently, someone is planning to get rid of the Tales, and this someone is clearly “one of their own.” Gameplay involves collecting evidence and interrogating suspects.

Like other games from the Telltale Games studio, The Wolf Among Us was released in episodes and consists of five parts. After you beat the game, keep in mind that the studio is actively working on a sequel.

Fahrenheit: Indigo Prophecy

Tex Murphy

Tex Murphy is a fairly old series for PC in which you can take on the role of private detective Tex Murphy. The main action takes place in the 21st century, namely in the city of San Francisco. The release of the first part of the series took place back in 1989, so the gameplay mainly consists of point-and-click elements and is based on exploration, collecting clues and interacting with NPCs. All this in order to solve the next puzzle.

Taking into account all of the above, the cutscenes are video inserts.

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter

The Vanishing of Ethan Carter is an adventure game that follows private detective Paul Prospero, who receives a letter from a boy named Ethan Carter.

Inspired by its contents, he goes to hometown Ethan, but ultimately faces tragic circumstances. Your main task is to find the missing boy and solve the mystery of his disappearance.

The gameplay is largely based on exploring the open world and searching for clues that will help understand not only Ethan's fate, but also connect a series of murders. The gameplay also includes a number of puzzles. But if you were counting on long story with a lot of mysteries, then complete walkthrough, which takes about four hours on average, may be disappointing.

Thimbleweed Park

Thimbleweed Park became a hit immediately after its release, because... was developed by Terrible Toybox and was considered the spiritual successor to the beloved Maniac Mansion. This is an adventure game in which you investigate a murder that happened in a small town. Like Maniac Mansion, this is a point-and-click quest, during which you can explore available locations, collect evidence and communicate with some rather strange characters.

The game is often compared to the Twin Peaks series and projects from , which are very similar in humor and lightheartedness. If you consider yourself a fan of the adventure genre and appreciate an interesting plot with elements of mysticism, then Thimbleweed Park is definitely not worth missing.

    Great quest, we liked everything!

We went to the quest at 4. To say that we were disappointed would be an understatement! The location is small, there is no plot. We completed the entire quest in about 40 minutes, and this despite the fact that at first the actor told us the backstory for about 10 minutes. In principle, there are no questions for the actors, they played well. But there was no involvement in the game process. In a nutshell: You are let into a dark room where there is so much smoke that you can’t see anything through it. They simply threw old things into the room and scattered figures around it that we had to find. While you are in the room, they throw pillows and rags at you. The quest itself is not scary, the fear simply consists of loud unexpected sounds. My personal opinion is that the price for this quest is not justified; for such a quest I would not give more than half of its current cost. That's all I wanted to say. Thank you.

I went with friends, some of them were on a quest for the first time. A group of four people, all 14 years old. Everyone really enjoyed it! The riddles are quite complicated, but we managed to figure out the clues. I recommend it, it’s better not for the faint of heart)))

I was with my wife, my wife was 9 months after giving birth... After entering, we left after 2 minutes of playing... My wife started to get scared... How was there no such instruction... No explanation was given regarding the level of fear of the game. When asked to reduce the level of fear, they skated; They didn’t turn down the music... They didn’t give me the opportunity to continue the quest alone... As a result, they paid 4 thousand rubles for 2 minutes of staying at the location... They didn’t return the money and didn’t give a discount. I think the approach is not client-oriented.

Quest comment: Hello, Konstantin! I would like to draw your attention to the fact that our quest is in the “scary” section; also on the quest page there is a description of the quest, the complexity of the riddles and the level of fear. While studying the recording of your game, we carefully listened to the instructions, which, for greater immersion, are conducted in a playful way. During the briefing, you were warned that our quest is not recommended for pregnant and nursing mothers. Unfortunately, we cannot exclude, at your request, important components of our quest, such as music and fog. It was also not possible to reduce the level of fear, since the actor did not even have time to appear in front of you. At the same time, we apologize for the behavior of our staff, with whom educational work was carried out. Best regards, "Dread Room"

Today we visited the Mystic quest. The description says that the quest starts from the threshold. One of his tasks is to find the venue itself. But kind guards helped us. Actor Mikhalych occupies great attention. Our entire group of 3 people was very tense. Everyone sat, trembling with fear and cold. At the moment of explaining the history of the quest, the majority already at this stage wanted to leave it. We gave Mikhalych the money and went into the games room. The music, background noises and atmosphere were overwhelming. The only man in our company rushed to solve the riddles, while the female owners trembled in the corner. After repeatedly turning off the lights, the entire team decided to leave the quest. (A small disadvantage of being in a room with a computer is the presence of haze, possibly dust. The team was literally suffocating from it). Mikhalych spent a long time trying to persuade us to continue the quest, but we were already hysterical and in a hurry to get out of there. We want to come again and take this quest)

Thanks to the team for a great adventure!! It was sooooo cool!!! Immerse yourself in the events of the quest right from the start. You are greeted by the character Mikhalych (simply BRAVO)). He tells a legend... After you get into the room, real horror awaits you (but that's what you came for))) The setting, the acting - everything is very realistic. The ending is unusual! It would seem that!! All!! But... Something went wrong... In general, have time to get out before the darkness swallows you..... I gave the guys 10 points (out of 10) Well done!!!

So far the coolest quest that we have completed, unlike many of the “most terrible” ones, this one really keeps you in suspense and you don’t know what will happen next (and there are more than 100 quests under your belt). Well, there’s nothing to complain about, from the meeting to the farewell.

They played great, the location seemed huge, the acting was beyond all praise, we didn’t even realize how many of them there were, but definitely not just one. Everything is great! Now I’ll drag all my friends there!

The atmosphere of this quest from the first minutes makes you forget about reality and become imbued with the ominous events that happened here. We held our breath at every slightest rustle or creak, just so as not to meet the one we were so afraid of! Frightening darkness, terrifying sounds, excellent acting, logical and interesting riddles - all this cannot but bring a lot of emotions! Thanks a lot!

Great quest, I really liked it. The meeting was simply magnificent, we immediately immersed ourselves in the atmosphere. The quest itself is very unusual and unique, nothing like this has ever been seen before! The perfect balance between solving mysteries and laying bricks! What I liked most was the large open space, at some point we thought we had left the building)))) Well done guys, 10 out of 10!!!

The quest was canceled by the organizers. Without warning in advance - that's one thing, for some reason they were deceived from the very beginning, that the actors were delayed - that's two, they reported that the site was flooded at the very last moment - that's three. Complete disrespect for visitors, waste of other people's time.

Quest comment: Olga, we are sorry that your team was unable to take part in the quest. The organizer told us that he is in touch with you and is ready to provide discounts as an apology for what happened. We hope you find the time to revisit the location and finally play Mystic. Best regards, "World of Quests" team

First we visited the company's second project - Diagnosis, which left very bright and positive emotions. Therefore, it was worth finding out that the guys had another quest, especially a contactless one, we immediately decided - let's go! The game begins from the threshold, or rather, from the colorful watchman Mikhalych (special bow, he is magnificent), who, not without humor, brings you up to date. Well, everything is extremely simple - we were “lucky” again and we chose a very cool place for the party. But we are no strangers to difficulties, and what’s important is to drive out some kind of nasty thing that is terrorizing the entire local population. “Pfft, nonsense,” we thought. “Oh, fool..”, thought Mikhalych. Yes, we ourselves very soon realized how wrong we were. Despite the fact that we have passed more than a dozen questors, we have never seen such a location and approach 😱 Sounds came from everywhere, it seemed that there was not just one Entity, but 5 of them, and only Mikhalych tirelessly encouraged us (jeered) and directed us. In short, we came out completely delighted, it was really very, very scary. Well done guys, thank you!

I have a lot of performances in different cities, but I have never been to such blatant bullshit... Let's start from the beginning. Entrance. There is no guest area. We have to hang around near some kind of dining room. Further. Background. Sooooo long... let's go to the "quest". A stupidly dirty, dusty basement littered with rubbish from the dump. I can not see anything. All contact is just someone throwing pillows and dirty shoes. Entourage 0, atmosphere 0, acting 0. And by the way, there are only two riddles))) Wasted money and time. I absolutely do not recommend it

An interesting quest, there are a number of unusual riddles. Friendly administrator. And relatives are just charm! Of the minuses - some of the hiding places did not work. So, for example, having found one of them, the administrator said over the radio that we wouldn’t need it for now. Apparently it shouldn't have opened. Well, the atmosphere was a little lacking - the music could have been more ominous and there were more screams. But we were saved, and that makes us happy.

Disgusting event and disgusting company! On December 14, 2019, we took part in a quest presented by the company Quest-for-all.rf called Sherlock. Disgusting room, the props are old, shabby, not to mention the fact that there are catastrophically few of them. 15 minutes before the start, a girl called me and asked me to stay for 20 minutes, because... they have renovation work. Despite the fact that we planned to have 16 people participate. The room was completely unequipped to receive participants; they were taken into a dark room with 2 hooks on the wall for clothes. Along the way, there were hints at every step. We didn't even have time to look around. It felt like they were trying to get us out of there quickly. The quest itself is not at all interesting. To my numerous requests for the administration to contact me, I received only the answers “they will contact you.” As a result, the company blocked my phone number. Payment is accepted only by Sberbank-online to some kind of out-of-town card, as a result of which a commission was also charged for the transfer. They work without receipts. Disgusting work! I didn’t receive any compensation for the disrupted event, not even an apology!

My friends and I completed the escape plan quest, escaped in 48 minutes, this is a success) At the beginning it was a little creepy to be handcuffed in a prison cell, but overall it was very exciting. Interestingly, the quest rooms do not only consist of prison rooms.

I went with my younger sister and her classmates to the “school of magic” quest. It’s amazing that 10-year-old children know everything about Harry Potter)) The spells came in handy, and the magic wands came into use) The quest is not difficult, but the animator Hermione helped us)

It was great! An hour of play flew by. The three of us experienced déjà vu, once again plunging into the magical world of Harry Potter - we each had our own magic wand, magic spells opened the doors, and the sorting hat assigned me to Gryffindor))! To be honest, not everything worked out right away; we managed to get out in 55 minutes, although I wouldn’t say that the riddles were difficult. Calling on all their ingenuity and a “magic wand” to help, they finally found a magic potion)

I gave my 14-year-old son a gift for his birthday - he and his friends went on the quest The Ring of the Nibelungs. I went there on my own and am sharing my impressions. I liked the quest, it was a little difficult, the guys didn’t have time to complete it, it wasn’t enough, as they say, a couple of minutes, but the administrators prompted and explained the last task at the end. Detective quest, logic tasks. I guessed right with the gift. Thank you and I recommend)

I went through this mystery quest with my sons and husband." flying dutchman" - I can say it’s really captivating, the surroundings are wonderful - there is a mast with a sail, a helm, a cabin and a captain’s bridge. The only thing is that the room is a little small, but there were 5 of us, but more would have been cramped) I liked it, the riddles were not difficult , passed in 45 minutes.

Very often these genres overlap, but in mystical games the main character is usually not a pumped-up Marine, but an ordinary guy who looks like us. At the beginning of the game, he understands nothing, is out of breath, confused, but gradually begins to grasp the thread of events and, without question, kills enemies with a couple of shots.

10. Alan Wake

This is how Alan Wake appears to us - a writer who just wanted to relax in a house in the middle of the mountains and forest. In this he was prevented by the night creatures that kidnapped his wife.

Shootouts at abandoned industrial sites and in forests turned out luxuriously. The game was made by Finnish developers - the authors of a series of games about the famous policeman Max Payne. Unlike Max, Alan cannot solve all his problems with weapons. Most monsters have to be killed with the electric light of a flashlight.

The hero finds clues in the form of pages from a novel he has not yet written. Following his own script, he is getting closer to unraveling the dark entity.

9. ObsCure

What is the most mystical place for five teenagers to adventure? Of course, their home school is in an ordinary American town.

In the best traditions of the film The Faculty, the player will have to alternately control five heroes. The first one is the most popular girl school, the second is an athlete from the local basketball team, the third is a difficult teenager, the fourth is a nerd girl, and finally the fifth is an attentive journalist.

By coincidence, teenagers find themselves locked in the school for the night, and wandering through the corridors, they discover the entrance to a dungeon infested with unknown creatures and mutants. It turns out that these creatures are the fruit of unsuccessful experiments of the school principal, who wants to find a cure for his twin brother, who has turned into a huge poisonous plant.

The game has many weapons and types of mutated creatures. Each hero has unique abilities, which diversifies the process of destroying monsters and solving simple puzzles.

8. Scratch

Argentine rustle - this is how the name of the game is translated. This is the only quest in our mystical top ten. How can a quest be scary? It would seem that you click the mouse and take away the artifacts... But the developers managed to achieve this. As writer Michael Artheit, you explore the mysterious Blackwood estate, where strange murders have occurred for generations.

Why did the writer end up in this house? He is its new owner. And out of curiosity, he begins to explore the mysterious mansion.

Atmospheric music, colorful locations and first-person view immerse us in a state of constant tension. What caused the appearance of the creature pursuing the writer in his own home remains a mystery.

7. Slender

The game, which originated in 2012 as a free toy, quickly found a publisher and was re-released in 2013. And all because the game coped with a very difficult task in our age - to really scare.

A tall guy in a black suit, white shirt, tie, but no face, did a good job playing the role of the only monster. You can’t kill him, it’s scary to approach him, all you have to do is film him and run away. So he follows the main character Kate alone in the hope that she will keep him company.

But the girl’s task is different - to collect leaves with drawings and in every possible way avoid meeting with Slender. For it is terribly unpleasant when a creature in a decent suit begins to elongate its limbs, and the screen begins to shake to the noise from the speakers. Nobody wants to be friends with someone like that.

6. Fahrenheit

Imagine waking up in the toilet with a bloody knife in your hands. There is a corpse nearby, and a patrol policeman is about to come in. You don’t even remember how you got here, why do you have the murder weapon in your hands? This is how our acquaintance with Lucas Kane begins.

This is not just a game, but an interactive film. Most Over time, you will watch interesting scenes, occasionally helping the hero dodge or balance over an abyss.

The variety of incidents, characters, mini-games and plot twists immediately made the project very memorable. And the superpowers of the main character and his connections with the other world add a fair amount of mysticism to the game.

Dedicated to lovers of the plot, branching dialogues and varied gameplay.

5.FEER

It’s not for nothing that the paranormal investigation unit’s abbreviation translates to fear. There is more than enough of this in the game from the Monolith studio.

In the role of the last surviving special forces soldier, you find yourself in a secret research institute, where, many years before, research was carried out on a telepathic girl named Alma Waite. After several descendants were made from her DNA, the girl was left to die, and the research institute was closed. Later it turned out that the girl remained in the form of a ghost, calling for help from one of her artificially created children - the telepathic cannibal Paxten.

The game is replete with scary moments that can cure the player of hiccups once and for all. The first-person view narrows the already narrow corridors of the laboratory. Constant flickering of light, the appearance of a little long-haired girl in a nightgown and the ghosts of disfigured employees lie in wait at every turn. Well, the time has come to shoot bloodthirsty opponents.

4. Doom 3

The same Mars, the same monsters, the familiar running through the corridors and shooting at everything that moves. In general, everything is the same as in the first two parts. But not really...

An improved graphics engine made it possible to add more mysticism to the game. Flashing lights, otherworldly sounds of monsters and closed spaces create an atmosphere of anticipation of something scary.

An important role is played by a realistic flashlight, with which the hero tries to illuminate the impenetrable darkness of the Martian bases, every moment waiting for the next monster. Compared to the first two Dumas, the third part has a real plot that is very interesting to dive into. Duum 3 is really scary to play. Evil hellish creatures jumping out from different corners can make even an experienced gamer tick.

3. The Suffering Prison is Hell

We already had darkness, there were ghosts and fear. This time the hero will be a prisoner named Tork, sentenced to death for the murder of his family. As usual, the hero does not remember whether he committed murder or not.

The prison that shelters Torka is preparing a surprise on the very first day. All prisoners and their punishers rise from the dead and in the form of monsters penetrate from all the cracks to take revenge and kill.

By the way, a separate team worked on the monsters, having previously worked on the games Alien and Predator. Therefore, the enemies came out creepy and memorable.

Throughout the game, Tork learns more and more details about the prison and its executioners, and each story is more terrible than the other. It’s also worth mentioning the rage scale, which fills up when killing enemies. It allows Torque to turn into an angry monster and, like the Hulk, destroy everything in his path.

2. Amnesia

Few people have heard about the Penumbra horror series. Frictional Games trained itself to make good mystery games, cutting its teeth on this line of games before releasing the masterpiece Amnesia.

So, a medieval castle. Main character Daniel wakes up unconscious and begins searching for clues. In general, everything is standard. The clues are the pages of the diary, from which we learn about the secret spheres that were disturbed by the main character during the opening of ancient tombs. Fleeing from the shadows of the other world, he finds shelter in the castle of his colleague, Baron Alexander. He first helped Daniel and then dragged him into a series of ritual murders.

The gameplay involves solving various puzzles and exploring locations in search of various artifacts and memories. You have no weapons, you are defenseless. And the first-person view only enhances the effect of identifying the player with the main character.

When Daniel sees monsters, he has to run away, hide in closets or dark corners. And the enemies here are not inferior to you in speed.

1. Silent Hill

The winner of our TOP mystical games is the founder of the Survival horror genre “Silent Hill”. But which of the seven games in the series is the most mystical, you ask? Experienced players will say that the first one. After all, it was here that the mystical town of Silent Hill was first shown, full of terrible creations of the fears of the main character Harry, who is looking for his daughter, a radio that signals impending danger with its crackling sound, finishing off monsters with his foot, an interesting plot, interesting video inserts and constant tension.

But dedicated fans may object. The story of the tragic love of James and Mary, told in the second part, makes us talk about a sequel, thanks to which the series gained popularity. To complete the horror, the now famous creepy, sexually horny monstrosity is Pyramid Head.

Well, what about the third part? It's hard to forget about Heather and her bloody stuffed bunnies. Silent Hill 3 was a breakthrough in terms of graphics. It is also worth noting the wonderful music of Akiro Yamamoto, without which the heartbreaking scenes of most parts of Silent Hill would not be remembered for long. Subsequent parts became a departure from the main concept, and then a return to it with a new look.

Conclusion: no one else can scare you the way Japanese developers do. Good luck on your mystical adventures! Don't forget to like if you liked the article.
