Preparing the editor

In the last article on GTA: SA modeling, we used the editor Zanoza Modeler to create game models. Today we will work with the same program, but to export the model to the format DFF (GTA: Vice City), which can then be imported into 3ds Max if you have a special plugin, and only then send our model on its final journey - to GTA: San Andreas.

Open Zanoza Modeler v1.07b (get the utility from our DVD) and create any game model. Click on the square with the red arrow in the toolbar. A menu for exporting the current game model will appear in front of you. Give the model any name in the field Name, be sure to include the extension at the end of the name .DFF, otherwise the editor will ignore the request to export the model. In field Game format select item Gta3/Vice City. Click the button Export and save the model to your hard drive. Copy the contents of the archive GTA_DFF_IO_(25Aug05) to a folder Script, which is in the 3ds Max root folder.

Launch 3ds Max (version 6 or higher), go to the menu item MaxScript/Run Script and select the script GTA_DFF_IO_25Aug05 from folder Scipts\GTA_Tools. Once the plugin has been successfully loaded, click the button Import Dff in the additional module menu and select the file with the extension .DFF, which you exported via Zanoza Modeler. Select menu item Export Dff in our plugin, make sure that the GTA: San Andreas format is highlighted green on the screen. Click the button Skip col, and then - Export Dff and save the model under any name. Return to the Z Modeler editor where the model is loaded. Click the model export button in the field Name enter a name that matches the name of the model exported from 3D Max. In the Format field, select Direct x media (.x) files and press the button Export.

Let's move on to the next step - creating a model of object damage. Run the program CollMaker. Select menu item File\Open and click on the .X file. In field Object Name enter the name of the object for which the damage model will be created (must match the name of the previously exported .DFF and .X file). Look at the menu item Options\Mirror and check the box next to the item X Axis. Click the button Make Collision File and wait until the so-called collision file is created, which determines the collisions of characters or cars with this object. In the save menu that appears, enter the name of the damage file and save it to your computer.

After the damage file creation process is completed, in the Object Name add a word before the name of the object LOD. Click the button Make Collision File and wait a few seconds until the program creates an empty damage file - we will need it to create the so-called Lod-a, or long-range visibility model of the object. Save the file on your computer with the same name as the previous COL. When the program prompts you to add new data to the old collision file, click Yes.

Texture file

The next stage of our work is creating a texture file for our model. Run the program Txd Workshop Sanan Beta. Select menu item File\New. In the window that appears, click on the bit type of image (16, 24 or 32 bits) that you are going to use in your txd file. Click once on the field containing the characteristics of the test texture, and in the toolbar, click the button Import. In the window that appears, specify the path to the image used to create the model and click the button Open. Double-click on the texture characteristics field to open a window containing the name and a number of other image properties. In field Name enter a name that matches the name of the texture you are importing. Confirm your changes by clicking the button OK.

Select the current texture in the characteristics field and go to the menu item Image\Duplicate- a duplicate image will be created. Repeat the steps above to import all the textures used to create the model. When finished, in the field in the lower right corner of the screen (where the GTA: Vice City texture format is selected by default), select the line San Andreas. From now on, all textures when saved will be converted to GTA: San Andreas format. Click the button Save Txd and save the texture file. Importing a model

Go to the directory Data\Maps games and create a folder in it called Igro_Test. In the second line everything is similar except that we use the long-range visibility model ( LOD test_obj) and the object drawing distance increases to 2900 meters.

The game map files have been created, all that remains is to register them in the file gta.dat from folder Data. Open it, find the line IDE DATA\MAPS\leveldes\seabed.IDE and add the parameter after it IDE DATA\MAPS\Igro_Test\My_Map.IDE.
