How to make a bird mask?

Today’s article will be very short, because the answer to this question can be fit into one sentence and a couple of pictures, because making a bird mask is very simple.

What do we actually need? - Make a beak, come up with a way to attach it to the face. You can do this with domino glasses, or you can use a half mask. I prefer the second option. Here is a universal pattern for a mask of any little bird. Basic, so to speak.

Pattern of a universal bird mask

For an adult, the width of the mask will be exactly the width of an A4 landscape sheet. Cut the darts on the forehead, roll them in slightly and seal them. In life, a bird's beak consists of an upper and lower part (jaw), but we will only do the upper half, because the lower "jaw" would interfere with the actor's ability to breathe and speak.

We cut out the beak (note that the flaps on the sides do not reach the bridge of the nose), bend along all the fold lines (try on without a mask, adjust) and, placing the flaps on the sides of the part inside the mask, glue in:

All! This is a universal bird mask; based on it, you can develop options for specific birds. For example, we already have , as well as .

One of these days I will write articles on eagle, cockerel and parrot masks. If you need any other (exotic) mask... marabou, for example, write in the comments, and I will definitely figure out how to make it.

And now, to prove to you that the mask model proposed here is indeed very versatile, I will turn it into a sparrow mask. Mask of a sparrow bird (not Jack))).

The sparrow has a brown beret on its head, a dark black-gray beak, and its eyes are outlined in black. The cheeks are white, and where the blush should be there are black spots. There is also a black beard, but - alas - I will have to give it up.

Take our universal mask and paint it. Here - I reproduced the approximate color distribution, and it obediently turned into a sparrow mask:

Color the universal mask yellow and it will be a canary.

A black beret and white cheeks - and it will be very:

Common Nightingale

The most famous and famous singers among birds - common or eastern nightingales - really liked the bushes on the bank of the stream that flows next to my house. Every year in May they begin their concerts, which could not leave anyone indifferent. All the years of developing the site and building the house, I listened with great pleasure to their singing in the evenings and at night, but did not see these singers. I really wanted to see them, but apparently they knew nothing about my desires, or they resolved this issue taking into account their own interests.

Several years ago I made a canopy over the entrance to the utility room under the veranda and last year I discovered that some gray birds had made a nest under it. At first I thought the birds hadn't thought this through very well. The canopy is wooden and not very high, and there are enough predators around that could disturb their peace - cats, crows. And my appearance under the canopy scared the birds. My fears that they would not be able to hatch their chicks were unfounded. In due time, the chicks appeared, patiently and silently, with open beaks, awaiting the arrival of their parents with food. The chicks grew up quickly and soon all four fledged and left the nest with their parents. They never appeared near the house again. After searching on the Internet, I found out that I managed to get acquainted with common nightingales

This year they again began to build a new nest on the other edge of the canopy, ignoring the old one, which I did not touch. This time I decided to watch them more, trying not to be too intrusive. Apparently they realized that I did not pose a danger to them, but they still didn’t let me get close to them. Therefore, my appearance with a camera forced them to fly away to a safe distance from which they controlled my actions. In order not to irritate the birds, I decided to postpone the photo shoot. I took a few pictures of the dad at a combat post near the nest and today the growing chicks in the nest. It was not possible to persuade their mother to pose in the nest.

While I was filming the chicks, the mother was nearby, ready to stand up for them.

I don’t know who was in the frame, dad or mom

This is how I became acquainted with the common warblers.

Quite an unusual and beautiful crow mask. It can be New Year's, carnival, and besides, a crow mask is made different ways. Some of them are suitable not only for children, but also for adults.

A beautiful and stylish crow mask is easy to make; at the same time, it will become an excellent accessory for any occasion. New Year or other holiday.

Option with feathers

A carnival mask of a raven is far from just the eyes and beak of a bird cut out of paper; here you can add the character and mannerisms of this feathered creature. Homemade masks differ from store-bought ones in that the soul is put into them.

The question of how to make a crow mask should be answered: what should it be like? After all, using feathers and convex elements in your creativity, you can create chic options. You can choose absolutely any colors; it doesn’t have to be predominantly black. The important thing is that such a thing is suitable for both a matinee and a Halloween party, especially if you want to create an image like in the fable “The Crow and the Fox.”

Process of creation:

  1. You need to take paper that will form the basis of the product. It should be tight. Fold a sheet of paper in half and create a mask template using scissors and a pencil. Such templates can be found on the Internet, but it’s easy to draw them yourself.
  2. Next you need to draw holes for the eyes. Determine where the beak will be and draw a slit. It will need to be attached separately.
  3. Then the product is cut out along the contour, as well as the planned holes inside. The distance between the eyes should be small. This can be done with children too.
  4. Feathers need to be cut out of cardboard. No need to be lazy, cut them out larger, so the crow will be more beautiful.
  5. An elastic band is attached to the wrong side of the craft, with which it will be held on the face. A simple sewing elastic band is suitable for this. To attach it, you can use a stationery stapler.
  6. The beak is made of thick cardboard, bent in half.
  7. Leave a couple of centimeters to glue the beak to the mask itself.
  8. Glue the beak well to the base of the product.
  9. Let's start decorating. The feathers will appear voluminous if you bend the lines in the middle.
  10. A few small feathers will help you carefully camouflage the area around the eyes.

In such a work of art, anyone will look like they stepped out of the fable “The Crow and the Fox.” The finished mask will serve as the basis for any look and will be a chic addition to it. With the help of an elastic band, it fits well on the head.

Other options

A carnival raven mask can be created not only from paper, it can also be made from foamiran with your own hands or from foam rubber.

Another way is to use fabric. For this purpose, a hat is sewn, preferably black. Any pattern will work. The main thing here is to use a smooth fabric that will shine like a crow's feathers. After this, you can use real feathers or paper cut ones. If the feathers are real, then they are attached to the fabric with small stitches of black thread; paper feathers can be glued with glue. The beak, made of paper, is attached to the hat in the same way.

Now it's time autumn holidays in kindergartens. In our script autumn fun"Autumn is golden"there are two birds for which I needed to do cap masks. I decided to search the Internet for options, but I didn’t find many ideas. Most a budget option, of course - paper. I used whatman paper because it is dense and does not lose strength for a long time. After masks can be used for the holiday throughout the year for theatrical activities, in the Mummering Corner, for free play activities with elements of theatrical performance. It is better to use acrylic paints for artistic creativity, because they, unlike gouache and watercolors, do not get dirty and do not fade. When coloring, I tried to rely on realistic photo images of these birds ( sparrow - brown, white cheeks are visible, etc.) Only the eyes turned out stylized - bright, expressive. The main thing is that I was satisfied with the result" birds"- artists.
