Pine is the personification of harmony and beauty in relation to other trees. The tree has a very straight trunk and long needles instead of leaves. The tree itself can reach more than 30 meters in height. Pine cones, medicinal properties which are quite diverse, have a slightly ovoid-oblong shape. Pine is the most popular tree for humans; it is worth noting at least the New Year and Christmas holidays, which we all love to celebrate not only with friends and relatives, but also with this coniferous tree. The forests where they grow have phytoncides secreted by pine trees in the air, due to which there are practically no harmful microbes within a radius of 25 meters from the trees. Thanks to this property, pine is actively used for medicinal purposes.

Pine is very common not only in Russia, but throughout the world. A large number of people know beneficial features pine cones and the trees themselves, so they try to get out into the forest as often as possible and relax, breathe this unique, rich air. Thanks to this rest, there is a beneficial effect on the lungs and bronchi.

Healing tree

It is worth noting that pine as a tree is very valuable; almost everything can be used in it for medicinal purposes: pine resin, needles, bark, pollen and buds. But among this, the cones (young ones) are of particular interest. Pine buds are collected mainly in early spring, before they have time to bloom, some do this in winter, but still best quality has a collection carried out in early spring. After they are collected, drying occurs. Young cones are fundamentally different from pine needles, which are consumed raw, and can be collected year-round.

Healing properties of pine cones

In fact, no one paid attention to the beneficial properties of pine cones, and did not even suspect it until employees in American zoos noticed that various animals loved to eat them. After this, tests were carried out that proved that a lot of useful medicinal substances accumulate in the cones over the entire summer, which are subsequently preserved in them. Moreover, all the beneficial substances that remain in the cones are there in a completely natural form. They retain not only a lot of vitamins, but also a special type of tannins and phytoncides.

It turned out that tannins are of great interest to scientists. During experiments on laboratory mice, unexpected results were obtained. It turns out that this type of tannin prevents the death of brain cells. And as you know, when a person experiences a stroke, due to circulatory problems, it is the brain cells that die. But when blood flow resumes, even more of them die. This is due to the fact that there is a certain type of enzyme that plays a huge role in the normal functioning of cells, and if this enzyme is somehow blocked, the cell will remain alive. Thus, scientists have discovered that tannin works to block these enzymes. But so far no medicines have been invented on this basis, and treatment with pine cones occurs mainly with the help of folk recipes. It is very important to know when and how to collect them correctly.

When to collect pine cones

By the way, it is in the last month of summer that they accumulate the maximum amount of useful substances. Thus, the size of the cone should be approximately 4 cm. While you collect them, you must definitely pay attention to their appearance and the condition of the trees. The pine should not have any damage from insects or show signs of rot. You cannot collect cones from such a tree. As for storage, the period should in no case exceed more than 18 months, the room should be well ventilated. If the buds are stored longer, they will begin to lose their unique beneficial properties.

It is for these that people come to the forest, who intend to make jam or healing decoction. It is not uncommon to make honey from cones, although its consistency and appearance no one will be able to distinguish him from anyone else. How to properly collect cones for tinctures and decoctions?

Both old and green cones are suitable for medicinal purposes. There is no need to collect cones that are too small; they have not yet accumulated all the useful substances. Depending on what disease you want to cure. Young cones are those that do not open throughout the summer and remain green.

Young cones are collected in late spring or early summer. It is worth choosing fruits ranging in size from 1 to 4 centimeters; they should be soft enough to be easily cut. This is especially important for those who want to make jam. When collecting them in the forest, try scratching them or biting them with your teeth to see how soft they are. The fruits themselves should not be damaged by insects and should not begin to rot. It is better to start collecting for medicinal purposes in the morning, since at this time of day the sap moves especially actively through the tree and they will contain more useful substances. Be sure to dry the fruits in a shaded place, the room should be well ventilated. You can also dry them in the oven, but the temperature should not be higher than 40 degrees. It is recommended to store such dried fruits in a bag made of linen or paper, as well as in a cardboard box. Under the right conditions, they will be usable for a year and a half.

If you plan to make a tincture rather than a jam, you can also collect harder buds. It will just take longer to insist on them. But they do not lose all their healing properties.

When collecting, it is better to give preference to females. They can be distinguished by their ribbed scales. They are also stickier. Some traditional healers recommend collecting pine fruits on the day of Ivan Kupala. They are sure that on this day the cones are most useful.

If you plan to prepare a tincture for the prevention of such a terrible disease as a stroke, as well as during rehabilitation after an illness, then collect the fruits better in summer or in September. At this time the cones will already be hard. But they won't open up. Over the summer, they will have time to accumulate enough tannins, which have an irreplaceable effect on the brain, stopping the process of cell death, which is very important for people who have suffered a stroke.

Important! A year after the cone has formed, it becomes darker and begins to open. Such fruits will be considered old; they will already have lost their seeds.

You should not collect cones from the ground, as well as near enterprises and roads. The tree from which you will collect fruits for medicinal purposes should not be sick or infested with pests.

What does alcohol tincture help with?

Cones infused with alcohol or vodka will combine the antimicrobial properties of alcohol and the medicinal properties of the plant itself. The main diseases that this tincture treats are:

  • stroke;
  • thyroid diseases;
  • thrombophlebitis;
  • as well as gastritis and stomach ulcers.

For diseases of the stomach, this tincture promotes rapid healing of the mucous membrane of this organ. The tincture also helps boost immunity and kill harmful bacteria. It is indispensable for the treatment of respiratory diseases (you can do inhalations) and for anemia.

When preparing a tincture, other herbs are sometimes added if the recipe calls for it. It is also possible to add pollen or pine buds. To do this, young fruits are sorted out, removing adhering debris. They are then cut and folded into glass jar and fill it with alcohol or vodka. You need to insist for about 20 days in a dark place at room temperature. For the best effect, you should shake the jar of tincture every day. When the product is infused, it should be strained and poured into a dark glass container. Take this remedy before meals in the amount of one tablespoon. Frequency of administration: 3 times a day.

What is the decoction used for?

If there are medical contraindications to the use of alcohol, or you are treating a child, then instead of a tincture, you can make a decoction. It can be prepared with both water and milk. It relieves inflammation in respiratory diseases, can also improve the condition of the immune system, and cleanses the body of toxins. The decoction also has choleretic and diuretic properties. In cosmetology, it is used to rinse hair and wipe the skin.

It is very useful to take a bath with this decoction. In the east, decoctions are widely used to improve skin condition. To do this, you need to drink one glass of this healing remedy every day for two weeks. Rashes disappear on the skin and even some fine wrinkles are smoothed out.

To prepare a decoction, you need to pour 10 g of young fruits into a glass of water, the temperature of which is about 60 degrees. Cook in a water bath for up to 15 minutes. Then remove from heat and allow to cool. Take a third of a glass several times during the day.

Cone syrup

The syrup is also widely used by traditional healers. These are pine cones boiled with sugar. It is indispensable in the treatment of colds. This syrup also improves immunity, speeds up metabolism, and increases potency. Syrup also helps with gout and rheumatism. This remedy is very convenient for treating children, as it is sweet and tasty.

How to clean blood vessels using cones?

Since young fruits contain a lot of tannins, it is recommended to cleanse the blood vessels with just such fruits. To do this, they recommend the following recipe: first you need to chop several soft fruits, then pour them with a glass of vodka or alcohol. Infuse the product for 15-20 days in a place protected from sun rays, and then filter thoroughly. It is recommended to take one teaspoon of this tincture on an empty stomach. But, if the vessels are already heavily clogged with cholesterol, then the frequency of administration should be increased to three times a day.

How to deal with hypertension?

If you are suffering high blood pressure, then old female cones will be needed for treatment. They are collected in the first half of June. Such cones are also called pine buds. For cooking medicinal tincture the buds are filled into a glass jar, then filled with vodka. It is recommended to insist for about 20 days. For each case of hypertension, one teaspoon of the product should be added to warm tea. To get rid of the problem, you should undergo a course of treatment.

Contraindications for use

Pine cones have such a wide spectrum of action that people consider them incredibly miraculous. But any treatment method must be approached as responsibly as possible. If a drug is plant-based, this does not mean that it is absolutely harmless and has no contraindications.
  1. Children and elderly people should not be treated with alcohol tinctures.
  2. Also, such treatment is strictly contraindicated in patients with hepatitis.
  3. It is forbidden to use preparations based on pine fruits for people suffering from kidney disease, as well as those who are allergic to the components of the drug.

Video: medicinal properties of pine cones

We already dwelt on this in detail last time. Now let's talk about the more grown-up, so to speak, use of pine cones to create an exquisite themed interior during the winter season and New Year's holidays. In this article we will look at the most simple options, which do not require (not counting preparation for dyeing or bleaching the cones) a lot of time, money and effort.

1. The simplest and most effective option is to wash it, then paint it completely, bleach the cone or apply artificial snow on top of it from a spray can, and then nail it on top with a nail/staple, glue it with hot glue (or glue a large bead to the cone with hot glue, and insert a string/ribbon into the hole of the bead) or screw a ribbon with a small bow onto a thin screw or screw with a loop. Or without a bow - depending on the final purpose of using such a design. After this, the cones can be hung on the walls, chandeliers, hung on the tablecloth on the sides of the table - and used anywhere else of your choice.

The main thing here is to choose the right tape. Cozy, non-shiny ribbons made of dense soft fabric, such as fleece, suede, or plaid fabric, look best with pine cones. But ordinary ribbons with a smooth shiny surface paired with bumps look vulgar.

Garlands are also made from large cones by tying ribbons between the scales - at the 2-3-4 level from the “butts”. Here it is convenient and beautiful to take thin ribbons made of simple red and white fabric in one layer, as well as natural rope like hemp, jute, etc.

Decorating chairs on the same basis:

But making a beautiful bunch of cones on ribbons, as it turned out, is quite difficult. And the point here is not in the fastening, but in the fact that the cones in such a “bundle” most often look like a dense pile of something unknown. Basic Rules:
— Introduce as many levels as far apart from each other as possible: not a single pair of cones used should hang at the same level or approximately at the same level;
- Never use wide belts for such work - only narrow or medium width at most, otherwise you will only add bulkiness and clumsiness to the structure;
- Don’t use a lot of cones, but also not a lot: 3 look... poor, and 7 are again... a bunch;
— For such compositions, it is best to first paint/sprinkle the pine cones with artificial snow, rather than hang them as is.

Cone pendants:

2. It is no more difficult to put the pine cones, finished in the same way (bleached/painted/“sprinkled with snow” - white paint or artificial snow) into vases, dishes, large flower pots. The main thing is to know specific ideas and always keep the final design in mind.

We take large vases, completely transparent and without additional details. They require brightly colored buds. Combinations of colors and shades depend on the occasion and the design of the room (but do not forget that the colors of the pine cones should also be perfectly combined with each other):

— The cones are painted to match the main color scheme of the New Year tree and other holiday decorations in the house (or to match the color scheme of the New Year’s table, for example);

— Cones are painted with colors and shades that complement the palette of your interior (see color wheel): muted if the interior itself is catchy, and bright if the interior is very neutral (in the latter case, the cones in the vase will become a focal point, an accent in the room);

— If you are dealing with a children’s room or kindergarten, a bathroom (or occasionally kitchens in a similar style), where usually a completely neutral interior is interspersed with many small bright details of different colors (more than 3), paint the cones in the same catchy colors what is in the room.

You can even take flower pots on the floor - for large cones. We add spruce branches and the simplest Christmas balls if desired - and amazing compositions are ready. Here the cones are usually not painted, well, the maximum is in muted silver or muted/pale gold shades. Or white paint/artificial snow is “sprinkled” on top - along the edges of the opened scales. Take flowerpots, dishes, pots from natural materials: wood, ceramics. If the latter has a pattern, choose Scandinavian motifs, ascetic or rustic rough styles and “winter” styles - i.e., where in discreet and often simple patterns there is a lot white as if the pots were again dusted with snow.

And here, not artificial transparent cones were used, but simply a well-chosen paint: metallic with a special glossy silver-gold tint.

Carefully select the paint colors for the pine cones and the shape of the vase/bowl, and basically nothing else will be needed:

And here, for example, soft large scales were carefully separated from the cones and glued with hot glue from top to bottom in rows and overlapping onto a transparent simple candlestick - or any other container of your choice.

4. Cones under glass. Glass caps/domes are not very common in our country and, nevertheless, they are quite easy to find on sale, and their prices are not that high. Moreover, the result is worth it.

With clear Christmas balls from which the metal crowns and loops have been removed

Both the cones and the dome are dusted with artificial snow

6. Wrapping gifts and decorating the New Year's table. Everything is the same here: the main thing is to give preference to natural and simple materials, because the cones themselves, in combination with spruce branches, are more than expressive, cozy and interesting.

These are the card holders. We saw the cone vertically from top to bottom to the middle and saw off the butt so that the cone becomes stable. If desired, trim the cone as described above - and you're done!

Cleaned light driftwood, to which small cones are glued on top with a purchased modern decorative mesh between them - with pearl-like beads on a fishing line:

Remove 3-4 scales from the top of the cone, then saw off the remaining top (consisting of 3-4 rows of scales), glue a beautiful bead into its center - and glue the top to the ribbon. Can decorate napkins, gifts, guest/decorative bath towels, etc.

7. Decoration for door handles - a bump in a bag. We roll up a neat bag from notes on yellowish paper, glue an openwork paper napkin inside it along the top edge, and then place it on top with glue and a pine cone. We attach a natural simple rope in any convenient way, and hang one of these decorations on the handle of each door in the house.

Pine, in comparison with other trees, is not only the embodiment of harmony and beauty, but also a real forest healer. This tall tree with a smooth and slender trunk, the height of which can reach 30 meters, has long been used for healing and was used in folk medicine of many peoples.
