Smartphone lg g6 description characteristics body. LG G6 review: a practical flagship. In good lighting

Outside

To be fair, I note: LG implemented the idea of “stretching” the screen in length in a smartphone. However, it was the LG G6 that became the first device to be widely available on a global scale with a non-standard (yet) 18:9 display, beating the Galaxy S8 by a week or two in most markets.

With the exception of this feature, the smartphone does not stand out much from the background of dozens of other current models: a metal frame, “crossed” in two places by antenna inserts, a glass back panel, slightly curved at the edges, a dual camera and a round fingerprint scanner in the middle of the rear panel.

The scanner (small, flush with the back panel, and therefore difficult to feel) is combined with the power button. Her atypical performance is perhaps the most big drawback ergonomics of LG G6. That is, after two weeks of use, I got used to this method of control, but I never began to experience joy from it.

But the screen here is simply magical. Not in the sense of picture quality, although it is at a level worthy of a flagship, but in the sense of how convenient a smartphone allows you to create a display of 18:9 proportions (2:1, 2880 by 1440 pixels) compared to the usual 16:9. A 5.7-inch diagonal with such proportions does not turn the device into an awkward phablet. It retains the familiar grippy width and one-handed typing capabilities of the 5.2-inch models. The display can show the clock and notifications in white on black even when the device is locked.

At the same time, for example, the text on each page fits no less than on the 5.5-inch screen of the massive iPhone 7 Plus. The only “but”: standard 16:9 video will be played with black bars at the ends of the smartphone, or, when scaling “to the edge”, a little of the image above and below will be lost.

The LG G6 correctly displays high dynamic range videos in HDR 10 and Dolby Vision formats. In such videos you can see the slightest shade transitions in both the darkest and lightest areas of the image. The picture on the screen is easy to make out even under straight lines sun rays, the display without an air gap has almost no glare.

Unlike most flagship models on the market, the glass protecting the front panel (Gorilla Glass 3) here is completely flat, without sloping “2.5D” edges. It seems to me that this was done for the sake of greater resistance to cracking when dropped. There is also Gorilla Glass on the back, but the fifth version: it is somewhat softer, tactilely similar to plastic, because of this, small scratches collect faster, but it is more difficult to break. LG is talking about certifying the smartphone according to the American military standard MIL-STD 810G ().

To prove its outstanding impact resistance, the G6 was dropped repeatedly from a height of about 1.5 meters onto a hard porcelain tile floor at its Russian presentation. Other than some minor dents on the metal frame and scratches on the back panel, there was no damage. The device is also resistant to the penetration of water or dust - the LG G6 can “swim” for up to half an hour at a depth of up to one and a half meters (IP68 certification). If LG had kept the modular design of the G5 in the new generation of flagship, this would have been impossible.

Inside

Qualcomm's 2017 flagship system-on-chip - Snapdragon 835 - was not included in the LG G6. Business laws are harsh: . Instead, the smartphone is built on . The same chip is used, for example, in Google Pixel smartphones. LG has thus become the latest major manufacturer to release a flagship smartphone powered by the Snapdragon 821.

The rest of the characteristics are definitely flagship: 4 GB random access memory, 64 GB built-in, installation of two SIM cards or one SIM and microSD. There will be no performance problems even in the most demanding games, not to mention ordinary applications. Of the advanced features of the Snapdragon 835 that owners of the LG G6 will not get, the only thing worth regretting is the .

Below you can see the results of testing the LG G6 in popular synthetic tests. The smartphone is not the “king of the hill”, but it is located quite close to its top. Without tests, it is impossible to notice the difference with the leaders of the AnTuTu rating - the device works quickly and without lags, and even in demanding games it heats up very moderately.

The battery capacity of the LG G6 (now non-removable) is 3300 mAh. This was enough for me with a good margin for a day of full use - by night the indicator never fell below the 20 percent mark. In HD video playback mode at 50% brightness, the smartphone lasted 9 hours and 10 minutes. Full charging from scratch with a standard adapter supporting Qualcomm QuickCharge 3.0 takes about 1 hour 45 minutes.

Camera, sound

The LG G6 camera has two 13-megapixel sensors, with one of the lenses being standard and the other being ultra-wide-angle (a viewing angle of 125 degrees is no joke). The first is a relatively standard smartphone lens with an f/1.8 aperture, complemented by phase detection autofocus and an optical stabilization system. The second (aperture f/2.4) is perfect for shooting landscapes and architecture (the ensemble of some medieval square in Spain has a chance to fit entirely into the frame), but it does not have optical stabilization or autofocus. Yes, on other phones the same “wide-angle” is achieved using panoramic photography, but it is not possible to use it in all situations. You can switch between lenses using on-screen buttons, or you can smoothly zoom in and out of the picture by spreading your fingers apart and bringing them together on the screen. Unlike the iPhone 7 Plus, the moment of switching between the two modules is clearly visible, including when shooting video.

Here's how the LG G6 shoots:

This and the following photo were taken from the same point with the regular and wide-angle lenses of the LG G6, respectively.

By clicking, the original photo will open in a new tab - notice how the photo with the sky reflected in the river lacks sharpness

But for the opportunity to take such interesting shots, I would like to forgive the blurriness of the wide-angle lens

Night shots are impressive, but you often have to manually reduce the exposure - by default, the smartphone tends to “overexpose” such scenes

When shooting against the sun, the device turns on the HDR mode, but the bright sky is inevitably overexposed

The price to pay for being able to fit something large into a frame from a short distance is geometric distortion

This photo was taken only in manual mode - automatically the smartphone stubbornly refused to focus on the object in the middle, preferring the background. Open the photo at full size to see how detailed the fibers of the opening bud are. Since the shooting was carried out in manual mode, underexposure here is entirely at the discretion of the photographer.

In my opinion, the LG G6 camera, although not ideal, is capable of producing quite “flagship” results, especially in a special manual mode; "automatic" occasionally misses the mark with exposure and color rendition. I was very impressed with the results of night shooting in the city. A wide-angle lens is indispensable in a number of situations; the main problem with it is the lack of clarity in many pictures. Moreover, the point is not the lack of stabilization: even photos taken in sunny weather at shutter speeds of about 1/500 s look cloudy on the monitor screen. But for viewing on a smartphone screen or posting to Instagram, the clarity is acceptable. All photos taken during testing on the LG G6 can be seen at this link (Google Photos).

In Russia, LG sells a “premium” version of the LG G6: while America and Europe got the phone with a 32 GB built-in storage, Russia received not only 64 GB of memory, but also 32-bit audio chip manufactured by ESS. This advanced digital-to-analog converter (even 4 DACs in one) with an excellent amplifier significantly improves the sound of music - there is more space and “air” in it, and it is easier to distinguish individual instruments and sounds. I note that the chip only works when transmitting sound via cable.

Having tried the phone paired with Plantronics Backbeat Pro 2 headphones, I can say that music with a wired connection sounds more detailed and generally more pleasant than on the iPhone 7 Plus, noisy compositions put less pressure on the brain, the sound picture is more clearly drawn. There is no bias towards any frequency range: bass, highs and mids were measured just right for our ears. And I’m talking about the sound of regular streaming mp3s from Google Play Music; well-made 24-bit FLAC files generally sound amazing. There is not much to say about the built-in speaker; it is quite loud, but if you turn the volume to maximum, distortion is inevitable. Perhaps this is it for today best smartphone for audiophiles with high-quality headphones who do not want to bother with external DACs and amplifiers. Just keep in mind that when you turn on the “Hi-Fi” chip, the battery starts to drain one and a half times faster.

Interface and software features

LG G6 goes on sale with Android 7.0- despite the fact that the most current version of the Google mobile platform today, already available for Pixel and Nexus smartphones, is 7.1.2. It’s not that users risk missing out on important functions. Rather, the question of concern is how much time will pass between the release of a new license plate Android versions and its appearance on the LG G6. You can focus on the experience of the previous flagship: LG G5 in Europe and the USA began receiving Android 7.0 in December 2016, four months after the “nexuses” with a clean version of the OS, and the update was completed only by February 2017. The year before last, the flagship G4 at LG initially refused to update to Android 7.0, and only when the owners of the devices were indignant, they promised to do it... in the third quarter of 2017 - that is, about a year after the release of this version of the OS.

The interface shell of the LG G6 cannot be called “clean” - a lot of things were painted on top of classic Android. Moreover, the reason for this, apparently, is one: the management of the Korean company is still confident that without “its own” interface the device will lose to its competitors. In fact, the non-standard interface only creates additional problems for users who, when switching from other smartphones, have to learn many new actions. However, most of LG's competitors have the same problems with their inability to abandon their own shells or reduce modifications to stock Android to a minimum.

Some proprietary applications from LG are really interesting: for example, "Square Camera" or "HD Voice Recorder" with a bunch of settings, capable of recording “high-resolution” sound in FLAC format, with a sensitivity adjustment function for high-quality recording of loud concerts.

conclusions

LG G6 is an excellent device. Yes, outwardly it is an ordinary glass-metal block without design frills, but the “long” screen definitely classifies it as a new generation of smartphones that remain convenient and compact when the display diagonal grows to 5.7 inches or more. The LG G6 has one of the best cameras, only slightly inferior in automatic mode to the market leaders, but at the same time able to take interesting wide-angle photos. Finally, this is the most suitable smartphone for those who want maximum audio quality in a portable package. But if 52,000 rubles doesn’t burn your pocket, and the LG Watch Style smart watch offered as a load without a heart rate monitor is of no use to you, you should wait a couple of months with the purchase - the price will certainly become more acceptable. At its current level, most buyers will find it very difficult not to be tempted by the futuristic, streamlined shapes of its main competitor, which now costs only about 6% more.

Let's summarize the LG G6 review.

Pros:

Large "tall" screen with support for HDR content in a convenient body

    Resistant to water and drops

Additional shooting options with a wide-angle camera

Owners of expensive headphones will note excellent sound thanks to the 32-bit DAC

Minuses:

    Undistinguished case design

Modifications in the interface shell that are not needed by most users, the very existence of which makes operational system updates difficult

High price at the start of sales

On the path to success, you need to overcome many challenges and gain invaluable experience. In the past, it released a number of unconventional flagships and managed to find optimal solution, which has received advanced characteristics and truly necessary innovations. LG G6 review will reveal the capabilities of a compact flagship that has a moisture-resistant body and high-quality cameras, which is already enough for most buyers, but believe me, it is capable of more.

LG G6 design

LG G6 Plus review showed that the smartphone has an all-metal body. Plastic inserts are carefully built into the ends and edges, which were used to improve the quality of communication reception.

The front side is covered with 3rd generation Gorilla Glass, but you shouldn’t rely on it completely. For greater confidence, it is better to stick on protective glass, which is guaranteed to save you in case of a fall.

The right side is occupied by a combination tray, in which you can simultaneously place one nano SIM card together with a microSD card or a pair of nanoSIMs.

On the left are the volume keys made of metal.

They brought it to the bottom edge USB port Type-C, which surrounds the microphone and external speaker.

On top there is an additional microphone and a 3.5 mm mini-jack.

The back is made of metal, when you hold the LG G6 phone in your hands, it pleasantly cools your hand. The manufacturer took a thorough approach to the development of the new device, ensuring its comprehensive protection. Thus, the back side is also covered with protective glass, which protects against scratches and can save the life of the device in case of a fall.

The central place of the upper part of the back is devoted to a dual camera module and a dual flash, which efficiently illuminates pictures at night and can be used as a flashlight. The lenses are mounted flush with the body and covered with 3rd generation Gorilla Glass.

Just below the camera there is a mechanical power control key; it is round and slightly recessed into the body so that it is easy to feel blindly. It also has a built-in fast fingerprint scanner.

The LG G6 smartphone review leads to the conclusion that the build quality deserves the highest praise, even if you wanted to, there’s simply nothing to complain about. You can feel the manufacturer's attention to detail. he did everything to make the device as high quality and interesting as possible. As part of the review, we were able to find out that the case received protection from moisture and dust according to the IP68 standard. In addition, the manufacturer even tested it according to military standards, which it passed with success. The device can survive not only a walk in the rain, but also swimming, as well as dirt.

The manufacturer managed to reduce the frames to the maximum due to which, with a display diagonal of 5.7 inches, the device turned out to be even smaller than last year’s flagship LG G5 with a diagonal of 5.2 inches. Compared to its predecessor, the ratio of screen to total front panel area has also improved - 79%. Thanks to this feature, it is convenient to use the phone even with one hand, holding it in the middle of the body so that you can easily reach both the lower navigation keys, which are on the screen, and the upper curtain with notifications. A big plus is the width of the case - only 71.9 mm.

The smartphone may have protective glass on both sides, but it cannot be called slippery - there is a matte metal edge around the perimeter of the body that prevents it from slipping out of the palm.

Display

Our LG G6 review in Russian moves on to the screen, which boasts an excellent achievement - it became the world's first IPS display to combine an 18:9 aspect ratio and QHD+ resolution. In order for the body to be as compact as possible with modern development technologies, the corners of the screen are rounded in an unusual way.

The Lg G6 display received support for HDR10, as well as Dolby Vision, which was transferred from the manufacturer’s popular TVs on the world stage. But these technologies are unlikely to be useful to the average user in the foreseeable future, since they are available only in a special video format, which is still very rare. During our review, we were delighted with the display; it has an impressive color palette and is capable of delivering high dynamic range when playing special content.

Even without considering the characteristics and delving into the theory, it becomes clear that this is one of the best screens on the mobile market. It is covered with a high-quality oleophobic coating, boasts natural color rendering, no air gap, excellent viewing angles and correct factory calibration that accurately displays white light. This is very rare; in most gadgets you have to customize the display for yourself after purchase, but here you don’t even want to delve into its settings. The brightness reserve is simply huge - at maximum it is convenient to work with a smartphone in bright sunlight, and at minimum it does not dazzle the eyes. There is an automatic brightness adjustment that quickly responds to changes in the environment around you.

LG G6 full review revealed support for a blue filter, which will be especially useful during long periods of reading and working on the phone, reducing eye strain. An interesting feature is that when the device is in sleep mode, the display does not go completely dark, but displays a black and white background with the time and current date. If this option is not useful to you, you can always remove it in the settings. When active, it drains approximately 1% of the charge per hour. You can set up unlocking with a double tap on the screen or set a unique combination of taps in different parts display.

LG G6 performance

LG G6 specifications are based on one of the newest chips - Snapdragon 821, the performance of which is sufficient to perform any tasks with a reserve of at least several more years. The processor not only received an increase in power, but also became more energy efficient and heats up less. The LG G6 has a copper heat pipe that reduces the temperature inside the case by 6-10%, which eliminates the possibility of overheating. This approach has great advantages - the processor may not be the newest, but it heats up less, improves autonomy and costs an order of magnitude less, which for many will be a key factor in their choice.

LG G6 characteristics include the presence of an Adreno 530 graphics accelerator. The amount of RAM can be considered optimal - 4 GB; they also did not spare the built-in memory - 64 GB according to the UFS 2.0 standard, which ensures high read and write speeds. But if this may not seem enough to you, then you can install a microSD card with a capacity of up to 2 TB.

No matter how hard you try to load your smartphone, it can handle everything. You can open a dozen pages at the same time in the browser; they scroll smoothly and are not unloaded from memory. During the review, we tested the LG G6 in many games, where there was always high fps on maximum graphics. There were no problems with displaying games and video content at the non-standard 18:9 aspect ratio. There are three options for launching games, you can choose any of them: with minimal black frames on the right and left, across the entire display area, and also in automatic selection format.

The LG G6 h870ds smartphone review found another interesting feature - an integrated 32-bit DAC, which provides excellent sound quality in the headset. The volume reserve is large, especially if you use suitable headphones. The conversational speaker conveys the voice of the interlocutor without distortion and boasts a solid volume reserve. The multimedia speaker is loud and produces clear sound in which all frequencies are clearly audible.

Wireless interfaces

A review of the characteristics of the LG G6 confirms that the device supports the latest wireless communication standards, including 4G+, Wi-Fi 2.4 and 5 GHz, Bluetooth 4.2, as well as an NFC chip. All interfaces work quickly and stably. For navigation on the ground, you can use GLONASS and GPS. They are well calibrated - it takes a few seconds to connect to satellites, and when you restart you won’t have to wait at all.

Autonomy LG G6

The smartphone received a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh. On average, it lasts for one day of autonomous use with almost 6 hours of display activity. In continuous video playback mode at maximum brightness, the LG G6 lasted 8 hours, and playing Asphalt 8 with an active Wi-Fi connection drained the battery by 22% per hour.

There is support for fast charging technology, but it only works when using the included charger. Charging time for the LG G6 from zero to one hundred is 1 hour 49 minutes.

LG G6 interface

The gadget runs on Android 7 OS, but with the LG UX 6.0 shell pre-installed. The first thing that catches your eye is the absence of an application menu; they are all sorted on the desktop. If there are a lot of them, then you can conveniently distribute everything into folders, depending on the category of the application. Already out of the box, Google services, programs from LG and several popular solutions from other developers are preinstalled. There is software for transferring user data from an old device.

Cameras

We start the LG G6 camera review and immediately find an interesting feature. Typically, a dual camera design consists of a main module with advanced characteristics and another module with worse characteristics. It is used as an auxiliary one to obtain original frames with the Bokeh effect. LG engineers decided to take a different route, abandoning the background blur effect; here the dual module plays a slightly different role. It is based on two identical Sony IMX258 sensors with a resolution of 13 megapixels. You can freely switch between them while shooting. Each module is good in its own way, but there are also a number of differences.

The first camera, which we see to the right of the cover, received a classic lens with a viewing angle of 71 degrees. The aperture ratio is 1.8. The design of the matrix includes three-axis optical stabilization, and phase autofocus is used to quickly target the subject.

The other module, located to the left of the flash, is wide-angle (viewing angle 125 degrees) and has a larger aperture - f/2.4. With its help, you can get a fish-eye effect and capture more space in the photo. The quality of shooting on both modules is approximately equal.

LG G6 64gb review showed that a manual shooting mode is available for advanced users, in which you can set each of the parameters to suit yourself: shutter speed from 1/3200 to 30 seconds, ISO from 50 to 3200, and take control of focus control. There is a separate “square” mode, designed for quickly creating pictures for Instagram. During daytime shooting, each of the modules performed excellently; you can see an example in the photo below.

When shooting at night, the noise reduction works quite aggressively; when you get carried away, noise becomes noticeable. Thanks to good optics and optimization of algorithms, decent shots can be obtained in almost any conditions.

LG G6 review in Russian introduces you to the fact that right out of the box you can take pictures in RAW format. It is available when shooting in manual mode.

The front camera is built on a 5 megapixel module, which does not shine with quality. The viewing angle is slightly increased in comparison with standard optics, due to which more space gets into the frame, even if you are not using a monopod.

Video shooting occurs in 4K resolution at 30 fps and in FullHD at 60 frames per second. The user has the opportunity to set his own settings. Other advantages include that the sound is recorded in stereo format, the microphones are well calibrated and do an excellent job of suppressing external noise.

Conclusion

Review of LG G6 h870dsu black Android 7 has come to an end, so let's slowly summarize. The smartphone can be called balanced. During the review, only minor shortcomings were discovered that you don’t notice in practice and you simply don’t want to let it go. The main plus is the display, which can be called one of the highest quality on the market, and it is also very easy to operate with one hand. Battery life, sound quality, design and build quality of the case, nothing raises any complaints. We are pleased with the protection from water and dust and the unique dual camera module with a wide-angle lens.

Where can I buy?

Subscribe to our Zen channel, there are many more interesting things waiting for you there.

Advantages: - long time work in standby mode. It takes 5-6 percent per night. This is despite the fact that almost everything is included, except wi-fi. Battery life during active use isn't that stellar, but overall it's good for the performance and screen. - excellent cameras, I especially liked the wide-angle one due to the ability to film the entire situation up close. A bunch of manual settings, stabilization of the first camera, excellent photo and video quality. The video records sound very clearly. - both practical and beautiful case. A 5.7 screen fits into a small size, but there are still small frames and no curves on the side of the screen, this is convenient in terms of the absence of false positives and there is a higher chance that the screen will survive a fall. Convenient to hold with 1 hand and carry in a jeans pocket. - a bunch of convenient features: face unlock, always on display (by the way, it turns itself off and does not eat up the battery if the phone is in the dark in your pocket, or is lying face down), fast charging which is super convenient, turning on the phone by double tapping the screen, turning on the camera by double pressing the volume down and a bunch of other things, very convenient. - doesn’t overheat, even when you’re charging and watching a video at the same time, just a little warm. - quite loud speaker. On my previous phone, even without water protection, the sound was quieter. Disadvantages: - the light sensor does not work as well as on some other models. That is, you set the auto-brightness at medium illumination as you need, move to a darker place and it dims the screen more than you would like, and sharply, but it doesn’t do it right away, it thinks for a long time. And it constantly jumps somehow jerkily. But this is only in battery saving mode. - the interface is ugly in some places or somehow unorganized and disproportionately designed. Ugly design of the dialer, for example. Some other brands have much nicer ones for my taste. In general, the interface gives a feeling of some kind of heterogeneity - for example, I wanted to change the fonts to suit myself, but it still turns out that in some places the fonts are too large, in others too small. There is no feeling of wholeness. - some minor software inconveniences. Personally for me. For example, if the energy saving mode is turned on, you put it on charge for a couple of minutes to maintain the charge level so that later it will be enough, the saving mode turns off and when you remove it from charging it does not come back, you need to manually return it. Comment: Overall the phone is excellent. I bought it for 38 thousand on prepayment with a discount. For this price, I think there are no competitors and despite minor shortcomings (is there anything perfect?) in general best phone On the market. No one else has such offers to immediately have an audio DAC, an IP68, and the penultimate processor, and good cameras, one of which is wide, and all sorts of features like fast charging, and a bunch of other things. And at the same time, a normal screen without any of this rounded absurdity when the screen goes onto the sides, 3.5 jack, all the advantages of Android in the form of an open system, memory cards, 2 SIM cards. By the way, the rounding of the screen in the corners practically does not affect anything, but it looks interesting. And the 18:9 screen format doesn’t really affect anything, except that small black bars appear on the side on YouTube in full-screen mode. Overall, the phone is very convenient and pleasant to use. It simply performs all the functions and there are no compromises like some - it seems to be a fast and good device, but there is no water protection, you are afraid of getting caught in the rain or spilling water... Or everything is fine, but there is no 3.5 jack and good audio. Or something else. And here everything is. And it works, at least for now, quickly, smoothly, pleasantly and efficiently. Update: I recently attended a concert. Lighting is very difficult. Everyone who took a photo nearby received an overexposed disgusting picture when the stage light simply White spot instead of a face. LG managed to get a very high-quality photo using manual settings; all other phones in auto mode took photos that looked like they were from the 90s. It also records video and sound perfectly, was next to the speakers and despite this there was no overload or wheezing, unlike most phones when the powerful sound of a concert overloads the microphone and as a result it’s not the sound, but wheezing

LG did a great job with the design of the G6 and made a truly beautiful smartphone. The Koreans abandoned the idea of modularity, releasing their new flagship in a non-separable case made of glass and metal. The removable battery also had to be removed, but in return we received protection from water and dust, which is much more important.

The G6 is made with a strong metal frame paired with Corning glass. The front panel uses tempered Gorilla Glass 3: it is more resistant to drops and shocks, which is especially important for the display. But the back cover, although it looks like brushed aluminum, is actually made of Gorilla Glass 5: it is scratch-resistant, which is important for the back side.

The smartphone is protected from water and dust according to the IP68 standard, and also received a certificate based on the military standard MIL-STD-810G (tests included falling from different positions, testing operation in high and low temperatures).

I'm glad that manufacturers have begun to massively introduce moisture protection into their gadgets - this is a really useful feature. LG G6 is not afraid of rain, sand, dirt, it can be easily washed under the tap and immersed in water to a depth of one and a half meters for 30 minutes.

LG G6 knows how to attract attention. IN in public places I felt people looking with interest at the unusual device in my hands.

Why change everything? The new aspect ratio allowed LG to make its flagship narrow and elongated. Thanks to the almost complete absence of frames and an elongated screen, LG managed to fit such a large display into a body that is no different in size from 5.2-inch smartphones.

By the way, there is no 2.5D curve on the screen, it is completely flat. This should please those who like to glue safety glass.

The large screen size of 5.7 inches is not something that should be intimidating. It is convenient to use the smartphone even with one hand.

Refusal of frames is a current trend among gadget manufacturers. The Korean company can be praised for its bold experiment with screen aspect ratio and minimal bezels. The idea will most likely pay off.

However, when you watch a video in 16:9 format, black bars appear on the sides of the screen. You will have to get used to them - this is the price for the narrow screen and compact size. It is unlikely that content producers will suddenly want to switch to the new 18:9 format.

Difficulties may also arise with applications, since most of them are not adapted to work on such a display. Fortunately, LG has added the ability to customize software scaling on the screen. This feature solves the problem.

The display is slightly rounded at the edges, just like the body of the smartphone itself. The company's research and laboratory tests have shown that the new design reduces the risk of display breakage.

When it comes to the quality of the screen itself, it would be fair to call it the best LG has ever used. Overall, this is one of the best screens on the market.

The screen is made using IPS technology with a resolution of 1440x2880 pixels. It has high brightness and contrast, maximum viewing angles and natural colors. I especially liked it White color- it is perfectly calibrated.

In addition, LG G6 became the first smartphone to support HDR 10 and Dolby Vision. These technologies come from flagship TVs and support video with a wider dynamic range.

True, now there is practically no such content, but soon American online cinemas promise to broadcast streaming video with support for these formats.

Another interesting feature of the LG G6 is the Always-On display feature. When locked, the display can show the time and missed notifications - something we've seen in smartphones from Nokia, Microsoft, Samsung and Motorola.

In the settings, you can select the type of clock and set the time to turn off the function. On average, the Always-On display consumes 1% of the battery per hour.

Balanced “filling”

LG did not chase the most powerful hardware and released the G6 on last year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor - this is exactly what is found in many 2016 flagships. The company explains its choice by the long development period of the smartphone, and also refers to energy efficiency considerations.

Devices powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 will be released in the near future, and the LG G6 will be noticeably inferior to them in performance. Another question is whether ordinary buyers need such power? That's the point, it's unlikely. For most users, having the fastest processor will not be the deciding factor when purchasing a smartphone.

Needless to say, all mobile games run at the highest settings? Absolutely everything we tested works perfectly. Asphalt Extreme, GTA: San Andreas, Mortal Kombat X, Modern Combat, World of Tanks - everything flies.

Thanks to the powerful Adreno 530 video accelerator and support for the Vulkan API, you can be sure that games will run at maximum speed for many years to come.

Despite the ultra-fast performance in games, the LG G6 can slow down in the most simple tasks. The problem is clearly not in the processor, but in the optimization of the LG UX 6.0 shell. How else can you explain the fact that a flagship gadget with noticeable slowdowns switches tabs in the phone book? This lag was already in G2, it definitely exists in G5 and it has not been fixed yet.

Sometimes the notification curtain pulls out with jerks, and scrolling in the Play Market and Twitter comes with microlags. Most users are probably not that picky and are unlikely to notice any dullness in the interface. But this does not change the fact that visually the LG G6 is noticeably slower than most flagships from last year. Koreans need to do something about optimizing their system - this is weak side smartphone (although it is likely that this is due to the non-finality of the sample that we were one of the first to receive).

The RAM capacity is 4 GB, which is enough for all tasks, including running two applications simultaneously. A version with 64 GB of memory will be sold in Russia. For those who need more space for data storage, a hybrid slot for a memory card was left.

Dual camera for wide-angle shooting

The LG G6 has both main cameras with a resolution of 13 megapixels. One module is used for regular shooting with an aperture of f/1.8, the second for wide-angle with a viewing angle of 125 degrees and f/2.4.

Compared to last year's G5, the second module received more megapixels and became noticeably better at taking photographs. LG research showed that 50% of G5 owners used the widescreen camera first, so the new smartphone continues to focus on this feature.

It's worth noting that wide-angle shooting in the G6 slightly bends straight objects at the edges of the photo, creating a fish-eye-like effect.

Wide Angle Mode

Note the building on the left.

At the same time, LG smartphones are the only ones that use a wide frame in their cameras. This makes them unique! In addition, we admit, this is much more useful than blurring the background and other “decorations” of the frame.

LG did not include the most modern camera module in its new flagship - Sony IMX 258. Despite the weak camera module, the Koreans were able to prove that the most important thing in mobile photography is quality software cameras.

During the day, pictures are bright, saturated, with good color rendition and a wide dynamic range. This is facilitated by the Auto HDR mode turned on by default, the operation of which does not at all affect the shooting speed, but has a positive effect on the resulting photographs.

Photo in the dark. Exposure and white balance are very good, but the buildings in the background lack detail. Night sky with big amount noise

True, there are also unpleasant nuances. So, for example, in photographs with a large number small parts, such as wool, grass, leaves, it is noticeable that they turn into “porridge” - they are blurred and poorly detailed.

In low light conditions, the photos are more than decent. The optical image stabilizer plays an important role in this - even in the dark, blurry frames are rarely obtained.

The only thing you can complain about is - a large number of noise in night shots.

The front camera has a resolution of 5 megapixels, which by modern standards is not enough for good selfies. If you can get good pictures during the day, then in the dark it’s better not to turn on the front camera on the G6 - the photos will turn out blurry and of poor quality.

By the way, competitors' flagship smartphones are equipped with front cameras with more high resolution: Apple iPhone 7 Plus and Huawei P10 have 8-megapixel modules, Sony Xperia XZ - 13 MP, and in Oneplus 3T and Samsung Galaxy A7 2017 - even 16 MP.

The smartphone shoots video with a maximum resolution of UltraHD (3840x2160 pixels). The footage looks good: the G6 exposes well, focuses quickly, and records high-quality audio even in strong winds.

A serious advantage was the ability to instantly switch between a regular and wide-angle camera right during shooting. And don’t forget about optical stabilization - it greatly corrects minor hand shakes and makes the video smoother.

It is important to note that we tested a pre-sale sample with non-final software. We noticed that our test sample is equipped with a slightly different camera - the properties of the resulting images display information about the f/2 aperture, while a full-fledged G6 should have f/1.8 and f/2.4.

It is likely that the quality of shooting in a smartphone intended for sale will be radically different for the better.

Day of battery life

LG G6 received a non-removable battery with a capacity of 3300 mAh. It may seem to you that for a large and bright 5.7-inch screen with a huge resolution, such a battery will not be enough and you will have to charge your smartphone twice a day. You'll be almost right - the autonomy here is not too high.

In mixed use mode, the G6 lasts until the evening. If you disable the Always-On display function and enable energy-saving mode, you can safely use your smartphone even for a day and a half.

How long will the LG G6 battery last for talking, watching videos and surfing the web? The answers are known down to the minute, and all thanks to LG G6 battery autonomy tests conducted by GSMArena experts. The sixth Korean supernova performed well. The results cannot be called champion, but for such a display diagonal it holds the battery charge confidently.

LG G6: battery

A 3300 mAh battery is responsible for the autonomy of the LG G6. We see a decisive step forward compared to last year's LG G5, which only had 2800 mAh. While the G6's larger display can't be discounted, it's worth noting that the battery capacity has increased by 18%, while the screen area has increased by 8%.

In terms of battery capacity, the LG G6 surpasses even its direct predecessor - the LG V20 (3000 mAh), whose display area with a diagonal of 5.7 and an aspect ratio of 16:9 is clearly larger than that of the Sixth G with 5.7 at 18:9. Well, how can we not remember that the V20 also has an additional screen, albeit not too power-hungry.

The only negative is that the LG G6 battery was tightly sealed into the case, which was not observed in either the G5 or V20. Be that as it may, the moral of the long introduction is that from the LG G6 we expect greater energy independence in comparison with its predecessors, which, let’s face it, didn’t grab the stars from the sky in terms of autonomy.

LG G6: battery life rating

The LG G6 lasts 22 hours 30 minutes on a single charge - five hours longer than the G5 and 3 hours longer than the V20. In both cases, we see a more noticeable increase in autonomy than would be expected with such an expansion of battery capacity. And this is a good sign.

LG G6 operating time: calls on 3G networks

The LG G6 also outperforms its brothers when it comes to browsing the internet. The 2017 flagship allows you to surf the web for 8 hours 31 minutes, while the G5 and V20 refuse to continue after 7 hours 35 minutes. Progress is obvious, although the battery life is not up to the Pixel XL, which will allow you to explore the World Wide Web for one hour longer.

In general, the Galaxy S7 edge is in the lead here by a wide margin with 10 hours and 35 minutes (for obvious reasons, we cannot yet compare the LG G6 with the S8). The OnePlus 3T couldn't get far ahead of the G6 in this battery life test. His result is 8 hours 43 minutes.

LG G6 operating hours: Internet

When playing video, the LG G6 lasts a full 6 minutes longer than the G5! But seriously, 10 and a half hours is a very good indicator, especially when compared with the LG V20's eight hours.

Pixel XL is ahead here too - its battery life limit when watching videos is limited to 11 hours and 9 minutes. In practice, this is equivalent to watching another episode of your favorite TV series. Good, but not that great, considering that the OnePlus 3T allows you to watch videos for 13 hours and 23 minutes without interruption. True, it doesn’t even reach the grandmaster performance of the Galaxy S7, which reached the 15-hour mark!

LG G6 operating time: video viewing

Combining these numbers, we get a battery rating of 72 hours with the Always on display feature turned off. This means that if you talk on the phone for 1 hour, watch videos for 1 hour, and surf the Internet for another hour, the LG G6 will last about three days on a single charge.

With AOD always on, the figure drops to 55 hours as standby power consumption increases. Calculations are performed even if nothing is displayed on the screen.

The impact of AOD on the battery life rating depends on the mode of use of the smartphone. If the phone is in your pocket (the screen turns off), the battery life will increase. But if you place the LG G6 in front of you on your desktop, and even in good lighting in the room or office, the display will not only work - it will burn brighter, consuming more energy.
