Pushkin was inspired to create “The Stone Guest” by Mozart’s opera “Don Giovanni” in the Russian version. Alexander Sergeevich borrowed something from Lorenzo da Ponte’s libretto, but created his own original work, which delighted V. Belinsky. A well-known critic wrote about “The Stone Guest” with delight:

The third scene begins with Guan deciding to stay in the monastery for safety reasons. At this time, Guan watches Anna coming to the grave every day. Rather, he decides to approach her, lies a lot, charms her, and finally seduces her. Anna makes an appointment with Guan, but only to talk. Guan happily tells Leporello about everything. But at this moment the statue of Anna's murdered husband begins to move. Guan mockingly says that the statue should be present on tomorrow's date. The answer is a nod, but the main character does not attach any importance to this.

The final scene takes place in Donna Anna's house. Anna tells Guan that she married a long time ago not for love, but because her future husband was very rich, and now Anna is tormented by her conscience. Guan consoles Anna in every possible way, and in the hope that he can persuade her to passion, he tells the story of how he killed her husband.
